This study analyzed the role of research on effective teaching and learning in the open and distance learning (ODL) institutions specifically at the Open University of Tanzania. The paper examined the key variables to be considered for ODL research at the Open University of Tanzania. The study reveals that the studies done to assess the role of research at OUT are inadequate and lack coverage in ODL variables and methodology. The study recommends that more studies should be conducted to assess the perception of instructors and students on the ODL mode of teaching and learning at OUT and other higher learning ODL institutionsDownloads
